Our Secrets Revealed

professor

So what is it that makes ShareThis so remarkably effective? Herbs and spices? Ball bearings and fetzer valves? Nope. Just an awful lot of very smart people who’ have wired our infrastructure with some of the most-forward thinking technology available on Earth.

Our Technology

  1. Multiple Backend Systems

Supporting all the social operations on more than 2 million websites requires ShareThis to crunch an enormous amount of data. To do it, we use multiple robust architectures to power an array of technologies, including Hadoop, Hive, Cassandra and Kafka.

  2. Predictive Campaign Optimization

To deliver the best performance possible from every campaign, ShareThis built a comprehensive optimization platform that applies two levels of constant evaluation and adjustment to help meet KPI goals quickly and efficiently. The outer loop of optimization provides a broader context for allocation and pricing; while the inner loop uses this data to inform RTB and delivery. For more information, click here.

  3. Data Analysis

ShareThis insights on social behavior provides rich material from which to build granular audiences for campaigns. Our platform has hundreds of IAB pre-built audiences as well as an interface for creating custom ones. We also provide a social extension product to increase reach and performance beyond standard segments.

  4. Social Audiences

Observing the social activity of millions of active users daily provides almost endless behavioral insights. By applying our Hadoop infrastructure to our data, we can tell what users are talking about, what they’’re interested in, what they think about a brand, what ads attract interactions and more – usually in a matter of minutes.

  5. Cloud Infrastructure

ShareThis runs completely on the AWS Platform and uses many of its components, including EC2, S3, SQS, RDS, ELB, Route53 and IAM. Our system is designed with built-in redundancy and is distributed across multiple regions to provide our clients fast access. Internally, we use a variety of open source technologies like Nagios, Ganglia and Chef to manage our infrastructure.
